Henderson, Texas is centrally located to Dallas, Houston and Shreveport, Louisiana. Using Heritage House as a home base you can explore the many antique shops that abound in small East Texas towns, or head to Bossier City right outside of Shreveport for a little casino fun.
Heritage House is an imposing 5,000 square foot mansion, built in 1913. The property has been lavishly restored to its original grandeur. The entrance is impressive and leads to the sitting room with French doors opening onto the main patio. A raised deck adjacent to the patio features a secluded hot-tub for your enjoyment. Nightly turn-down service is available. Further back on the one acre property is an adult swimming pool set amidst a lovely landscaped garden with a fountain and goldfish pond. The entire property is very private, enclosed by a wrought iron fence and surrounded by towering pine and pecan trees – big, like they grow them in East Texas!
Pampering is at its finest at this inn. The hospitality begins upon your arrival with refreshments in the tea room. Like a massage? Manicure? Pedicure or Facial? Just request it! Love High Tea? Every Saturday from 3 to 5 pm you can experience a real one, complete with English Scones with clotted cream and jam. Like the teapot? That lovely china? The inn features four guest rooms, two with sitting areas. The rooms have 10-foot ceilings and gleaming hardwood floors. The Sam Houston Room is a three-room suite on the first floor. It features a private entrance. 1900’s four poster bed and fireplace. Private bath. The Ice Cream Parlor is a lovely room done in pastels. Enjoy a rest in the wicker chaise while looking out over Henderson’s Main Street. Ice Cream parlor features a double bed and a twin bed. French door leads to the upstairs balcony where you can enjoy your morning coffee. Shared two-room bath with large tub, oversized shower and a real antique bidet imported from Europe. The E.F. Crim Room, named after the son of the original owner, who was actually born in this room, features a plantation-style queen-sized rice bed with canopy. Livingston, Texas, is located in what is known as the “Pineywoods Region” of historic East Texas. The Milam Home was built in 1920, the year of a massive flood on the Trinity River. An inviting wrap-around front porch greets guests to the fully restored home. There are many local attractions. Horseback riding is available, fishing on Lake Livingston, golfing, antiquing, shopping at the nearby outlet mall, Livingston Trade Days or bird watching in the Big Thicket. For the history buffs there is the Poly County Museum and Heritage House. Also nearby is the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation, Heritage Village in Woodville and the Caddo Indian Mounds outside of Nacogdoches.
Milam House features four guest rooms. The Watt’s Room is decorated in English hunting scenes, with the original wood ceiling restored to its original beauty. Private bath has an antique cradle tub for soaking away your tensions. Feather mattress topper, luxurious linens and feather comforter. Daisy’s Room is also on the first floor and features a wonderful oak bed, and border wallpaper accent. Restored private shower/bath. Noreen’s Suite is the most private room. The room is upstairs and accessed by a private outside staircase. The two-room suite features a queen and a full-sized bed. Rosevine Inn is located in Tyler Texas, the “Rose Capital of the World”. Numerous antique and craft shops are a short drive away. Also of note in Tyler are the Dewberry Plantation, East Texas Symphony Orchestra Association, Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge, Tyler Civic Ballet, and the Tyler rose Museum, a must for gardeners. Nearby is the University of Texas at Tyler.
The Rosevine is fairly unique among bed and breakfast inns in that it is a fairly new structure. The inn was built in 1986 to replicate a 1930’s style home which was located on the site before it burned down. The site was chosen because of the beautifully landscaped grounds and convenient location. Rosevine Inn features five rooms, including one suite. Rooms are done in cheerful décor and furnished with antiques. Each room has a private bath. Two rooms have queen-size beds; one room has a high back antique double bed and one has two three-quarter size beds.
There is also a restored 1934 cottage featuring the Sherlock Suite. Find the hidden door and receive a gift. The suite is decorated in an old English motif and features a bedroom with queen-size, high back bed and a corner fireplace. The sitting area has a second fireplace and armoire with TV/VCR, Stereo/CD player and a dining room. The suite has a small courtyard with stone fireplace and built-in smoker. Common area is the Barn/Game Room which is furnished as a Hunting Lodge/Tavern with stone floor, fireplace, game table, trophy heads and antique furnishings.
