Favorite Texas B&B's
Back

Off the Beaten Path
Monday, September 6, 2010

We love to stay in bed and breakfast inns when we travel – especially in small towns and rural areas.  We’ve found that we really enjoy meeting the unique people who own B&B’s equally as much as the lovely ambience they have created for their guests.  These are a special breed of folks – dedicated to hospitality.

B&B’s often add amenities never seen in most other types of lodging – things like rooms with fireplaces, down pillows, feather beds, down comforters, cashmere throws on the back of a plush loveseat, really, really good soaps (often handmade in their area).

B&B’s in Texas run the gamut from opulent to rustic – from perhaps one single room in the innkeeper’s home to a whole compound with many types of rooms and suites to choose from, or a rustic cabin with a fireplace and a big front porch equipped with rocking chairs on a secluded ranch.  Your hosts at our favorite B&B’s are ready and eager to point you in the direction of local activities.  In some cases, they’ll even make arrangements for various tours in the area – say, you’d like to take a tour of Hill Country wineries in the luxury of a limo with an experienced wine guy at the wheel.

And, of course, there’s the breakfast… Many are regal feasts to be savored in a communal dining room, where you can meet fellow B&B lovers.  Other B&B’s offer continental breakfast in your room.  A few, who really spoil their patrons rotten, bring a full breakfast to your room or suite or cabin, often with coffee in a silver pot, regal china and white linen napkins.  Whatever your mood, there’s a B&B waiting for you somewhere in Texas!
